A peaceful, uninterrupted sleep allows us to approach our daily responsibilities with greater enthusiasm. A well-spent night boosts optimism and positively affects health. It’s no wonder that when issues arise in this area, our daily comfort quickly suffers. There are plenty of guides online that help with falling asleep and maintaining sleep hygiene. However, none of these principles will help if we don’t first take care of a comfortable bed. The mattress is mainly responsible for how we feel during rest. How to choose one to create a place that will be so comfortable that we will be reluctant to leave it in the morning? Here are a few tips.
Make sure to choose the right mattress size
The dimensions of such a product should be tailored to our height. Sometimes we have enough space to invest in a large bed and a matching mattress. However, considerations regarding mattress size most often revolve around how to ensure that we are not buying too small a solution. The rule here is quite simple:
1. The length of the mattress should be at least equal to our height, plus an additional 15-20 centimeters. This is the absolute minimum.
2. The width of a single mattress should be at least 90 cm. Sometimes you might encounter information about 70 cm, but often such a width turns out to be simply insufficient.
Type of mattress – Bonnell, pocket, or foam?
However, choosing the right size of the mattress is not everything. The material from which the product is made is also important. We will typically encounter foam and spring mattresses (Bonnell and pocket). A foam mattress may be perceived by some as a low-quality product. This is due to the fact that the term „foam” is not associated with something solid, but rather with something that easily deforms. It’s worth suspending these beliefs when selecting a mattress, as this way we might miss out on the benefits of modern technologies. Such solutions include thermo and high-elastic foam. It is characterized by excellent elasticity and is resistant to deformation. The level of comfort it provides and its durability are hard to compare in any way with standard foam products.
A Bonnell and pocket mattress, unlike the previous variant, is equipped with springs. In the Bonnell option, they are attached to a special wire on each side. Therefore, one might expect that this construction does not differ from that of a standard mattress. That’s just an illusion.
In reality, a modern sleeping mattress with Bonnell springs has been equipped with amenities such as the possibility of double-sided use. Thanks to this option, we can adjust the side of the mattress to the current season. Progressive springs have also been interestingly utilized here. If a small weight is applied to them, such a spring will show little resistance. However, in the case of a larger mass, its counteracting force increases. People considering the purchase of a spring mattress must pay attention to the pocket mattress. Each spring operates independently since each is located in a separate pocket, allowing for complete comfort regardless of body position.
